Full Guide

Lockpick location

Goat Eyes sells the lockpick at Quisach Roundabout for 30 sol. Goat Eyes is available during day and night cycles. The lockpick opens standard mechanical locks found on doors, cabinets, and containers throughout the early districts. Cross-checked from multiple community sources.

Chain Cutters location

The chain cutters are located on top of the tall tower south of the bazaar in the old docks area. You may need to navigate around or through the docks to reach the tower base. The cutters open chained barriers and industrial-grade locks that the lockpick cannot handle.

Prybar location

The prybar is obtained through Dr. Gonza in Party Alley. Follow Dr. Gonza's dialogue route and assist with his request to receive the tool. The prybar opens forced-entry points, boarded passages, and heavy containers. Using it may create noise and attract attention.

Which tool to get first

Priority order for most routes: 1) Lockpick (most versatile, lowest cost), 2) Prybar (opens forced-entry shortcuts), 3) Chain Cutters (situational but necessary for completionist routes). Adjust based on your current district and available funds.

Tool use consequences

Quiet tools (lockpick) minimize attention. Force tools (prybar) may affect nearby NPCs and faction standing. Industrial tools (chain cutters) are neutral but limited to specific barrier types. Choose based on your route's stealth requirements.

Exact route: lockpick

1) Leave safe house after full inspection. 2) Go to Quisach Roundabout. 3) Find Goat Eyes. 4) Buy lockpick for 30 sol. 5) Return to previously locked doors and containers.

Exact route: prybar

1) Explore Bootleg Bazaar thoroughly. 2) Go to Party Alley (save before entering). 3) Find Dr. Gonza. 4) Complete his request. 5) Receive prybar. 6) Test on boarded passages and forced-entry points.

Exact route: chain cutters

1) Complete Bootleg Bazaar. 2) Go to Old Docks (south of bazaar). 3) Navigate to the tall tower. 4) Climb to the top. 5) Collect chain cutters. 6) Return to chained barriers.

Backtracking checklist

After collecting each tool, revisit any notes marked locked, boarded, chained, cabinet, back room, or shortcut. The most common mistake is getting the correct tool and forgetting the barrier that made you want it.

FAQ

Do I need all three tools?

For the main story, probably not. For completionist routes and accessing all optional areas, yes.

Can I buy the prybar or chain cutters?

The prybar is quest-gated through Dr. Gonza. The chain cutters are found in the environment. Only the lockpick is directly purchasable.

Does tool choice change dialogue?

Using force tools in populated areas can trigger different reactions from NPCs. Plan your approach accordingly.

Which tool saves the most time?

The lockpick, because it opens the most common barrier type and prevents backtracking to Goat Eyes.

Can I miss any tools?

Community-reported: lockpick is always available. Prybar can fail if Dr. Gonza's quest fails. Chain cutters should remain available but save before climbing the tower.

Should I get the lockpick before the gun?

Yes. The lockpick (30 sol) is more versatile than the gun (100 sol). Buy the lockpick first, then decide on the gun based on your build and Sol reserves.
